The High Heel-a-thon is back!

Posted Jul 28th 2011, 11:00

The launch of the UK’s third annual charity High Heel-a-thon took place last week, building on the huge success of the past two years. Once again, we are asking the region’s women and intrepid men to slip into their favourite heels to raise money for this year’s charity partners: The Haven and Sue Ryder.

The X Factor’s Treyc Cohen and Emmerdale’s James Hooton joined the team to launch the 2011 high heel saunter in aid of the two charities. The Gateway, where the high heeled walk kicks off, saw James and Treyc joining The Haven and Sue Ryder to kick up a splash in the fountain to launch the call for 500 people in Leeds to step into their spikiest stilettos for the charity high-heel walk.

James who plays Sam Dingle in Emmerdale was snapped with the X Factor starlet who recently played Dorothy in the Wiz at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, stepping into his pink stilettos to launch the 2011 event.

The High Heel-a-thon will take place on Sunday 25th September, and comprises a one mile saunter in which participants must start and finish wearing their high heels.

High Heel-a-thon participants will set off from the Gateway complex on East Street, Leeds and follow a 1.2 mile route around the city, taking in many of Leeds’ best known landmarks such as the Corn Exchange, the river Aire and Brewery Wharf.

All funds raised will go towards The Haven and Sue Ryder. The Haven is a national charity with a centre in Yorkshire which provides a completely free programme of complementary therapies to people with breast cancer. Sue Ryder provides expert and compassionate support for people living through life-changing illness. The charity has local hospices in Headingley, Leeds and Keighley, Bradford.

The event will be followed with music and entertainment at the Gateway. Sue Ryder vintage fashion stalls will be erected and treatments will be available from therapists at The Haven.

The individual entrance fee will be just £15 (£10 for concessions), which covers entrance administration and an event t-shirt. Those participating will also receive a goody bag with lots of fantastic treats and the opportunity to win some amazing prizes as well as the chance to rub shoulders with some very special celebrity guests.
